I started making these birdcages and other wire pieces when I realized I love the look of an abandoned circus or carnival but I also like the look of nature reclaiming some of these abandoned places and giving them new life.
Traveling with my family to England this summer, we went to the seaside town of Brighton where they have a dilapidated pier that was destroyed in a fire. It looks like a giant wire birdcage, and in fact it is because many birds have made it their home so it has a second life as a bird sanctuary. Seeing that old pier and the carnival on the nearby "new" pier(at least 30 years old) was even more of an inspiration to create this artwork. I hope you enjoy it!
